While walking around Alicante yesterday, we originally planned to eat at another restaurant, but this one caught our eye because of its Michelin recommendation. We decided to give it a try, and overall, the staff and service were very polite and attentive. In general, we were satisfied, but we have to say it fell slightly below our expectations. The paella in particular was just average in taste. By the end, we felt it was something we could have skipped. Although the service was kind and welcoming, some basic things were missing. The tables in the back area were placed very close to each other, which made it feel more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. Even more surprising was that after finishing the starters, the main dish paella was served without changing the plates. We were expected to eat our main course on the same plates used for the appetizers, with leftover sauces still on them. At this level, in a restaurant that positions itself this way, that should go without saying. It was odd and disappointing that we had to bring it up ourselves. All things considered, this is probably still one of the nicer restaurants in the city. But if you are going in with the expectation of a gourmet experience, be aware that it is more of an above average place in terms of flavor and attention to detail. Still, if you are in Alicante, it might be worth visiting once to try it for yourself and form your own opinion.

Che dire? 5 stelle se li merita tutte. Davvero da provare. Qualità del cibo elevata, servizio ottimo e dipendenti davvero gentili. Prezzi nella media, forse le quantità sono un po’ piccole ma ci possono stare. Passateci se siete ad Alicante, merita.

Fantastic next-to-fine-dine experience. Beautiful interior and friendly service. They offered a tapas tasting menu but we opted for a la carte tapas. The steak was very impressive, super tender and juicy. The Russian salad with tuna is also another highlight. Price is at a high region but worth the penny.

Had the amazing tasting menu without wine pairing (bought a bottle of white) and it was delicious. It was extensive and definitely good value. Had to have a little time between some courses as wanted to enjoy every plate. Each course was cooked perfectly, the iberico pork was cooked as it should be in Spain, so was rare compared to UK cooking, it was delicious.

We visited La Taberna del Gourmet with high expectations and chose the tasting menu (€69 per person). Unfortunately, the experience did not meet the price or the restaurant’s reputation. First, we were disappointed by the presentation and service of the dishes. At several points, we were served a single shared plate, even though we had paid per person. There were no explanations of the food — not in English, not even in Spanish — which is unacceptable for a tasting menu experience. Before the menu started, we were served a small aperitif, which we assumed was complimentary, as is standard in most fine dining restaurants. However, we were later charged €5 per person for it, without any prior notice or choice. That felt dishonest and left a bad impression. The food itself was underwhelming. Flavors were flat and forgettable, with little creativity or balance. To make things worse, we found a hair in one of the dishes, though we didn’t complain out of professional courtesy (as I work in a kitchen myself). The dessert was served in a dirty cow-shaped figurine, which felt unsanitary and unpleasant. The atmosphere was noisy and uncomfortable, with tables placed too close together and no sense of personal space. The bathrooms were dirty and had no soap, which is unacceptable in any restaurant, let alone one with gastronomic ambitions. In short, it was a disappointment. We’ve had far better experiences at restaurants without any awards or mentions in food guides. This one simply did not live up to the hype.

Had a very pleasant time here! We walked in around 4pm in a Saturday, and the waitress was very kind and quickly got us a table. We were looking for some bites and they promptly attended us. We got a few starters to try and some drinks - everything spotless. Not only the starters were absolutely fantastic - loved their croquetas - I also needed to order a dessert, simply because I saw it in another table and it looked amazing! And I was not disappointed- a French Toast like, with a brûlée top and an ice cream pairing (to die for). Fair price for the quality of food and service you get. The environment is quite chic, but I felt it very welcoming regardless of your style. Highly recommend! As a side note, I would recommend booking it in advance, cause it can get very busy.
